Recently Mary and I have been re-watching a few episodes of Firefly. Last night we watched 'Objects in Space'. I always found the bounty hunter to be a very strange character, quite self-obsessed and really rather creepy. A character well played, I think.
Simon Tam: Are you Alliance? Jubal Early: Am I a lion? Simon Tam: What? Jubal Early: I don't think of myself as a lion. You might as well, though - I have a mighty roar. Simon Tam: Ummm, I said "Alliance." Jubal Early: Oh. That's weird.
...
Simon Tam: So you're a bounty hunter. Jubal Early: That ain't it at all. Simon Tam: Then what are you? Jubal Early: I'm a bounty hunter. |

For those who haven't seen it already, recently the_magdalene and bitchyblondebat created the "Gothic Encapsulation Project" community here on lj ( gothmix) - so if that sort of thing tickles your fancy, check it out and create your own mixes!
anyway here's my first submission to the G.E.P - not so much a 'Goth Hits', rather a selection of tracks that had some special meaning or significance to me when I was younger (particularly around my late teens/early twenties). I think the mix captures quite a wide variety of moods.
So here we have Goth: The Darquening.
Track listing as follows: 1. Bauhaus - Nerves 2. Einstürzende Neubauten - Kalte Sterne 3. Christian Death - Face 4. Sex Gang Children - Sebastiane 5. The Birthday Party - Figure of Fun 6. Blooding Mask - Exit 7. Fields of the Nephilim - Moonchild 8. Swans - I am the Sun 9. The Sisters of Mercy - Burn 10. Corpus Delicti - Patient 11. Siouxsie and the Banshees - Obsession 12. Dead can Dance - Frontier 13. Miranda Sex Garden - Open Eyes 14. Pale Saints - Hunted 15. Cocteau Twins - Pandora 16. Lycia - Everything is Cold 17. Goethes Erben - Gleiten

A couple of weeks ago I went down to South Otago for a few days with my mum, my sisters, niece and nephew, we stayed at my Gran's old place in Kaka Point, to tidy a few things up before selling.
A few days before I went away Mary and I went for a stroll in the Waitakere ranges - here are some pics:

News in brief:
I set the breadmaker to make some bread so that it would be ready first thing this morning. It is linseed, sesame, sunflower, almond and pistachio bread and it is the best thing ever.
After a brief search I found that someone had uploaded "Roger sings the hits", which is a) awesome and b) highly nostalgic for me (I was at the Flying Nun 10th anniversary - it was a memorable gig) http://kiwitapes.blogspot.com/2007/08/various-artists-roger-sings-hits.html

Swing was exhausting but fun tonight. Although just when I think I'm getting somewhere it gets harder. I blistered my heels dancing in my new rocks on Saturday too.
One of the more unusual moves we do as part of 'The Jitterbug Stroll' is called the 'Shorty George', named after this guy, who is awesome:
The next free swing lesson is next Monday, 5th November - 7PM at the Mt Eden Methodist Church hall, cnr Mt Eden Road & Ngauruhoe St (opp Circus cafe). |

| | Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Jumpin' Jack | ] | For any interested parties, there will be a 'bonus' swing lesson next Monday (Labour day) that isn't part of the current block - it's $10.00 and all comers are welcome. Starting 7:00pm at the Mt Eden Methodist Church hall, cnr Mt Eden Road & Ngauruhoe St (opp Circus cafe).
Also there will be a swing party Saturday week (27th October) same place and cost, with a beginner's lesson starting at 7:00pm - the theme is 'All black' and Megan the teacher's challenged everyone to out-goth the goths ;D just quietly I think Megan's rather chuffed that there's a bit of a subcultural contingent at her swing class - I even gave her a copy of my Deep Eynde CD on Monday (the closest thing to goth swing I could find). |
